Dr. Robert Marzano’s Teacher Evaluation Model Alignment to New Jersey State Teaching Standards

Dr. Marzano's Evaluation Model is officially an approved provider for the state of New Jersey.

The state of New Jersey Department of Education has adopted the New Jersey Professional Standards for Teachers as part of the the states educator quality initiatives.

The New Jersey Educator Effectiveness Task Force has released a recommended framework for an evaluation system which is made of two segments. Those segments, both weighted equally, are student achievement and teacher practice. The New Jersey Commissioner of Education developed a list of approved observation and measurement tools from which they recommend districts to use to evaluate teachers for the "teacher practice" portion. Dr. Marzano's Causal Teacher Evaluation model is on that list.

It is imperative that districts implement a evaluation model that is accurate, fair and fosters professional development for teachers. Dr. Marzano's Teacher Evaluation model focuses on teaching strategies and has proved to create a high success rate for inter-rater reliability. Learning Sciences International created iObservation as an innovative tool with technology built specifically for Dr. Marzano's Protocol, and is the only system with exclusive access to Dr. Marzano's Causal Teacher Evaluation Model. Learning Sciences International has taken the liberty of developing a helpful document that aligns Dr. Marzano’s Causal Teacher Evaluation Model to the Ten New Jersey Professional Standards for Teachers listed Below:

Standard 1: Subject Matter Knowledge

The New Jersey Department of Education’s one-year teacher evaluation pilot program, titled Excellent Educators for New Jersey (EE4NJ), is an effort to make a major change in Teacher Evaluation in New Jersey. This month, the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) looked at three models that four of the pilot districts selected, including the Marzano Causal Teacher Evaluation model.

The NJEA asked several experts about each model being used in New Jersey, including Learning Sciences’ Peggy Schooling, Ed. D, Director of Teaching, Learning and Development.
