Develop an Understanding of the Model
- Marzano Teacher Evaluation Academy – The Academy will explain contemporary research for developing teacher expertise and how the Marzano Causal Teacher Evaluation Model can raise student achievement. During the Academy, participants will learn the four domains and 60 elements within the causal model, introduce the classroom observation instrument and process, and overview the weighting and final rating calculation. The Academy may be attended by teams from multiple districts. The Academy may be offered in multiple formats including 1, 2 and 3-day sessions.
- Audience: district leadership and members of the district’s teacher evaluation redevelopment team
Redevelop Your Teacher Evaluation Procedures
- Redevelopment Sessions – During these 3 days of consulting for districts, LSI advisors will assist members of the teacher evaluation redevelopment team to examine and redevelop its teacher evaluation processes and procedures to successfully implement the model. Content, templates and tools are provided for districts to adapt and/or adopt for its own procedures and processes. These processes and procedures are key to a successful redevelopment process. The Redevelopment Sessions may be offered regionally and attended by teams from multiple districts.
- Audience: district leadership and members of the district’s teacher evaluation redevelopment team
Ongoing Support
- Central Office Support Services – To ensure successful implementation across each district, LSI consultants provide district central office leaders with support services and communication tools.

Develop Accuracy of Observers
- Leaders of Learning for Evaluators-- This program develops the capacity for administrators to become leaders of the teachers’ learning through effective and accurate observation and feedback for teachers. Administrators develop their understanding the common language of instruction and the four domains and 60 elements within the model and then focus on intensive video simulations with scoring. The program has several variations depending if a district is using paper-based observation forms or the iObservation platform for data collection, feedback loops and professional development and evaluation. Participants are expected to practice classroom observations and feedback for teachers throughout the program applying what was learned in order to build their understanding and accuracy. This is accomplished through team visits to classrooms following the training days. The program is provided in two versions for evaluators and also for teacher leaders and instructional coaches that will provide growth feedback to teachers in support of the model.
- Audience for Evaluator Version: central office and building administrators including principals and assistant principals
- Audience for Non-Evaluator Version: Teacher leaders and instructional coaches
Achieve Inter-Rater Reliability of Observers
- Inter-Rater Reliability Training-- Accuracy comes before inter-rater reliably. This 3-day program follows the Leaders of Learning program and focuses on achieving inter-rater reliability for observers. Observers must be trained in the model and have time to practice developing their accuracy before attending the inter-rater reliability professional development.
- Audience: all individuals conducting classroom observations
Ensure Accuracy with Observer Certification
- Observer Accuracy Certification – This online program is a cost-effective way for districts to ensure quality assurance for accuracy of their observers. Participants will receive videos to score and will be assessed on their accuracy in order to receive the certification. In the era of high stakes teacher evaluations, this independent certification helps ensure high levels of accuracy for observers.
- Audience: all individuals conducting classroom observations
Support for Struggling Observers
- Shadowing Days – For administrators that may not be as proficient in the model, LSI offers shadowing days where an expert consultant will visit classrooms conducting observations with a team of five administrators and debrief afterward to build their confidence and skills within Dr. Marzano’s common language of instruction.
Build Teacher Leader/Instructional Coach Capacity
- Leaders of Learning for Teacher Leaders and Instructional Coaches (Non-Evaluators)-- Teacher leaders and instructional coaches are very important for implementing the common language of instruction and for providing informal feedback loops for teachers to receive support, guidance and feedback within the common language of instruction without the fear of exposing weaknesses to evaluators.
- This program develops the capacity for teacher leaders and instructional coaches to become leaders of the teachers’ learning through use of the common language of instruction to help teachers to self-identify strengths and weaknesses and to provide supportive feedback for instructional improvement. The program has several variations depending if a district is using paper-based observation forms or the iObservation platform for data collection, feedback loops, professional development and growth. Participants learn the common language of instruction and experience video simulations on how to use the scales to determine levels of implementation for research-based strategies and provide meaningful feedback.
- Audience for Non-Evaluator Version: Teacher leaders and instructional coaches
Build Teacher Capacity
- Marzano Facilitator Certification-- This online program offers district staff developers the opportunity to be deeply trained within the Dr. Marzano’s common language of instruction and then be able to offer workshops to teachers within the district on the model. There are a series of certifications available to district staff developers covering all the elements within Domain 1: Classroom Strategies and Behaviors.
- Marzano Teacher Workshops – LSI offers expert teacher workshops in all aspects of Dr. Marzano’s common language of instruction. During each workshop, teachers will deepen their understanding of the model, self-assess for their individual performance in the elements, and create a growth plan for successful implementation within their instructional practice.
- Marzano Online Courses – LSI offers a full range of high-quality, self-study online courses that go deep into all aspects of Dr. Marzano’s common language of instruction.
