Learning Sciences International is the official provider of the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model for state departments of education, school districts, and school level redevelopment and implementation services.

Our team will be with you during every step of the process to help you implement teacher and leadership evaluation systems. Our services include training observers, implementing a common language of instruction, and building the capacity of teachers to use research-based instructional strategies to improve student learning. Dr. Robert Marzano is Executive Director of Learning Sciences Marzano Center and oversees all product development related to his model.

Trainings to Redevelop Your Teacher Evaluation Procedures

  • Development of Policies and Procedures – Teacher evaluation committees are guided through a series of activities and training to help them with key decisions prior to replacing their district’s current evaluation model with the Marzano Causal Teacher Evaluation Model. (5 Sessions: 2 days on site and 3 virtual sessions) Audience: Teacher evaluation committees, district and building leadership, teacher leaders, union representatives.

Ongoing Support

  • Marzano Model Implementation and Monitoring – To ensure successful implementation across each district, Learning Sciences consultants provide district central office leaders with support services and communication tools. Learning Sciences and central office administrators review goals and relevant data to promote fidelity of implementation with recommendations to struggling schools and evaluators. Audience: Central office administrators.

Trainings to Develop Accuracy of Observers

  • Domain 1(For Evaluators) – Participants receive the training necessary for successful implementation of the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model within their schools and districts. Learning Sciences experts provide insight about the Marzano Art and Science of Teaching framework as a model and common language of instruction. To conclude the training, participants will take a cognitive assessment to verify that they have sufficient understanding of Domain 1. Audience: administrators and teacher leaders. (3 days)
  • Marzano Protocol (For Growth) – This professional development provides an overview of the Marzano Art and Science of Teaching framework as a model or common language of instruction. Participants learn about instructional strategies within the context of appropriate lesson segments. To conclude the training, participants will take a cognitive assessment to verify that they have sufficient understanding of Domain 1. Audience: administrators, teacher leaders and coaches. (3 days)
  • Domains 2-4– Attendees gain an understanding of the planning, reflection, and collegiality processes as experts provide guidance in Domains 2-4 of the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model. Participants learn how to effectively plan implementation to support the Marzano Art and Science of Teaching framework. Attendees also practice pre-and post-conference processes and learn how to take an active role in creating strong relationships among teachers and school leaders. Audience: administrators, coaches, and teacher leaders. (1 day)
  • On-site Principal Coaching – Learning Sciences experts visit, watch live classroom observations, and provide feedback to a team of one to five administrators and principals on the observation process within the Marzano Art and Science of Teaching framework. Participants may receive coaching on a variety of topics. Audience: administrators. (1 or 2 half-day sessions)

Achieve Inter-Rater Reliability of Observers and Achieve Observer Certification

  • Building Inter-Rater Reliability (For Evaluators) Inter-rater reliability sessions focus on building capacity toward rater agreement. Participants learn how to observe specific elements within Domain 1, distinguish between the various levels of the performance scale, provide a rationale for their ratings, and construct actionable, specific feedback for teachers. After the final session, participants are assessed on their ability to identify elements, apply scale ratings, and provide feedback to teachers. Additional training can be purchased to support participants who need additional practice. Audience: classroom observers (Half-day sessions or 3 full days)
  • Observer Proficiency Certification (Observer Proficiency Certification is the capstone certification in the Marzano Art and Science of Teaching framework for practicing observers. Certification confirms that observers have effectively completed the necessary training to score and provide feedback to teachers for evaluation. Participants who pass the assessment will be awarded a three-year certification from the Learning Sciences Marzano Center for Teacher and Leadership Evaluation. Districts purchasing the proctored session will receive a summary report of participants who pass the assessment. Audience: all classroom observers.

Build Teacher Leader/Instructional Coach Capacity

  • Domain 1(For Evaluators) – Participants receive the training necessary for successful implementation of the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model within their schools and districts. Learning Sciences experts provide insight about the Marzano Art and Science of Teaching framework as a model and common language of instruction. To conclude the training, participants will take a cognitive assessment to verify that they have sufficient understanding of Domain 1. Audience: administrators and teacher leaders. (3 days)

Facilitating Teacher Growth

  • Deliberate Practice Participants work through activities that reveal how deliberate practice is a partnership among teachers, observers, and administrators. Attendees learn how each role is unique but dependent on others when driving, structuring, resourcing, and monitoring a teacher’s practice, and they will put together a plan for deliberate practice to build necessary structures for first-year implementation at the district and school levels. Audience: administrators, teacher leaders and coaches. (1 day)
  • Marzano Online Courses (Graduate Degree and Non-credit) – Learning Sciences offers a full range of high-quality online courses to equip educators with strategies and practices that translate into measurable changes in the classroom and result in increased student achievement. The MSEd Major in the Art and Science of Teaching online graduate program is presented in partnership with Wilkes University and the National Institute for Professional Practice.   • Deliberate Practice (Participants work through activities that reveal how deliberate practice is a partnership among teachers, observers, and administrators. Attendees learn how each role is unique but dependent on others when driving, structuring, resourcing, and monitoring a teacher’s practice, and they will put together a plan for deliberate practice to build necessary structures for first-year implementation at the district and school levels. Audience: administrators, teacher leaders and coaches. (1 day)
  • Common Core Series This series of six sessions addresses distinctly different components of the Art and Science of Teaching framework. The sessions work best if taken in succession but are so robust they are also available individually or out of sequence. The sessions include a foundational understanding of the Common Core State Standards; an overview of the related design questions; how to interact with and apply standards specific to grade level and subject areas; and how to apply the training to lesson plans, templates, and practical classroom tools. Audience: teachers. (Each session is 6 hours)

School Leadership Evaluation Services

Designed to align with the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model, the new Marzano School Leadership Evaluation Model promotes a school-wide concentration on student achievement using a common language of instruction. The model provides principals and administrators with strategies and tools to empower their teachers, so leaders and teachers can focus together on the ultimate objective: improving student learning.

  • Marzano School Leadership Evaluation Domains 1-5 The Marzano School Leadership Evaluation – Domains 1-5 training will introduce the Marzano Leadership Evaluation Model and the research to support the model. Participants will also learn how to use sources of evidence to score and give feedback on the model and track their progress in understanding and applying the model through authentic application and assessment. Audience: Evaluators of principals, principals, assistant principals. (2- or 3-day session)
  • Monitoring the Progress of Leadership Evaluation – This session helps district administrators who evaluate principals determine the individual strengths and weaknesses of those principals and focus on the elements within the framework that generate growth and positively impact student achievement. Attendees will review sources of evidence and related data, examine procedures for providing accurate and consistent feedback, and learn to help principals identify areas for growth. Audience: Evaluators of principals. (1-day private consultation)
  • End-of-Year Progress Monitoring – End-of-year progress monitoring ensures support for districts using the Marzano School Leadership Evaluation Model as it enters the year-one final leadership evaluation period. During a private consultation between administrators and a Marzano Center Senior Level Consultant, participants learn how evidence supports leadership evaluation. The session is delivered before the final leadership evaluation period during the first year of implementation. Audience: Evaluators of principals. (1-day private consultation)
