NYSED Approves Dr. Robert Marzano’s Teacher Evaluation Model

Learning Sciences International

The New York State Education Department has determined Dr. Robert Marzano’s Causal Teacher Evaluation Model to meet the criteria established in New York’s Request for Qualification as part of the Race to the Top initiative.

Dr. Robert Marzano, among the most respected researchers in the nation, has partnered with Learning Sciences International and iObservation to implement his groundbreaking Causal Teacher Evaluation Model. The model embeds Dr. Marzano’s research on teaching strategies providing teachers clear guidance on how to improve their classroom instruction in order to raise student achievement, therefore, identifying the “causal” links between teacher practice and student learning gains. In addition to accurately rating teachers’ performance, Dr. Marzano’s research-based approach actually empowers teachers to increase their students’ achievement.

Learning Sciences International supports states and districts with exclusive implementation and redevelopment services on Dr. Marzano’s Causal Evaluation Model including training evaluators with high degrees of observer accuracy and inter-rater reliability and offering the iObservation companion data system for data collection, classroom observation, professional development, feedback to teachers, and final evaluation.  You can find LSI as a services provider on the approved Teacher Practice Rubrics List.

“Dr. Marzano and I welcome New York’s approval of Dr. Marzano’s Causal Teacher Evaluation Model,” said Michael Toth, CEO, Learning Sciences International. “Districts selecting Dr. Marzano’s model will see the power of the model for raising student achievement. We have received tremendous support from teacher associations for the model due to its developmental approach and strong supports for teacher improvement.”

New York joins a growing list of states around the country implementing Dr. Marzano’s work with Learning Sciences International. One of those pioneers is neighboring state New Jersey, who has approved Dr. Marzano’s Causal Teacher Evaluation Model to meet requirements for the state’s $1.16 million pilot grant program. Earlier this year, The State of Florida established Dr. Marzano’s Evaluation Model as the statewide model for teacher evaluation. LSI currently provides technical assistance for all Florida school districts to transform their teacher evaluation systems.
